Virtual National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships, 2021

Posted on:  May 25, 2021

Big congratulations to our Year 8 Girls indoor rowing team who took part in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) on May 20th.

Ruby, Lily and Phoebie have been training hard whenever they had the opportunity, despite all the disruption around Covid, Team members Nick and Sherrie have done a great job supporting them in their training and all the hard work paid off when they took part in the national event. Due to Covid the event, which would normally take place in London, was made into a ‘virtual’ event with hundreds of schools and clubs taking part all over the country.

The team were very happy to welcome back the Mayor of Goposrt, Councillor Zoe Huggins, who joined the staff team in cheering the girls on. In the event, the rowers needed to row for three minutes with the aim of covering as much distance as possible. Ruby, Lily and Phoebie did us proud with all three of them recording their personal best distances – and Phoebie’s impressive distance of 766m put her in silver medal position, which was absolutley amazing!

Well done to everyone involved and a big congratulations to the Year 8 girls team for all of their amazing hard work and determination.
